Power Antenna Mast Instructions

Delco Power Antenna Mast and
 Cable Replacement

     Removing the Mast:

  1.   Turn on your Radio, with the ignition key on, and allow the power unit to cycle until it stops.

  2.   Disconnect  the Power Lead from your power antenna relay.

  3.   Turn off your Vehicle.

  4.   Manually extend the antenna so that all of the mast sections protrude from the upper insulator.  Extend the top mast section from the lower sections.  Unscrew the Finial using a wrench.  Keep the solid top mast section from rotating by griping it with a pliers.   ( see Figure 1 below )

  5.
Figure 1  Of the Top Mast Sections

  6.   Unscrew the upper insulator from the escutcheon housing using a 14mm socket, then pull it up off the mast. ( see Figure 1 above )

  7.   Remove all mast sections and any attached drive cable by pulling it upward out of the antenna assembly.

  8.   Remove all three torx screws from the lower cover of the antenna and take off the cover.  Remove any cable remaining in the gear. with the cable hook in the open area turn the hook counterclockwise to disengage it from the gear hole.

  9. Installing the Mast:

  10.    Reconnect the power lead to the relay and allow the gear to rotate for ONE revolution,  then quickly disconnect the power lead when this has been accomplished.

The insertion hole for the hook should now be at four o'clock  ( see Figure 4 below )  This step is very important and must be completed to allow the antenna to function properly.  If the four o'clock position is passed after rotating the gear you will need to repeat steps 1, 2, & 3 of the removal instruction and repeat the one revolution procedure.

  11.    Screw the cable guide into the drive cable end ( see Figure 2 below ).   If you have a kit that the cable and rod are already connected, disregard this step.

  12.   Feed the cable and guide, or if you have the cable and rod connected, guide it up threw the actuator hole and up through the top of the antenna tube assembly.  ( see Figure 3 below )

  13.   Remove the cable guide from the cable if you have this version at this time.

  14.   Connect the cable fish hook, at the end of the cable in the hole in the gear by turning the hook clockwise into the hole ( see Figure 4 below )  Then pull the top mast section and cable threw the top of the antenna tube being very careful not to kink and break the cable.

  15.   Reassemble the lower cover, making sure that the drive cable is sealed properly in the gear and that it is not logged between the cover and housing.

  16.   Slip the lower  mast sections over the solid rod section that is connected to the cable.  Compress the contacts on the lower mast section with the assemble tool provided in the kit, that's if your kit came with that part, ( see Figure 5 below ) and slide the mast sections into the top of the antenna tube.  Remove the assembly tool.

  17.   Slide the upper insulator over the mast sections ant tighten it into the escutcheon housing with your 14 mm socket.

  18.   Screw on the finial or the tip of the antenna by holding the solid rod with a pliers padded with a cloth or a piece of rubber to prevent and damage.

  19.   Reconnect the power lead at this point and the antenna should retract.
